Systems Administrator / PHP Engineer Team Dev Ops

Full time

Located in our London offices, this role is a new function within the growing UK Engineering team. You will primarily be tasked with ensuring the continued uptime, responsiveness, and security of VoucherCodes.co.uk, and it's sister site in Germany, Deals.com. You'll be proficient in the administration of RHEL and CentOS, which is used across our network, and know what goes into a scalable infrastructure, having spent at least 3 years working on high-traffic web sites. Experience of web operations is a must. You'll know that things occasionally break in the middle night and site uptime is critical. You're comfortable with the concept of infrastructure as code, and will have implemented such in the cloud. What's more you're an excellent communicator, cautious about change, and calm under pressure.

Being a dual-skilled role, after impressing us with your own code examples, you'll also want to get your hands dirty in our code. You'll work on projects - both solo, and with the team - building out new features for the website on our PHP-based framework. You've implemented code in high-traffic environments before, and understand caching and scaling techniques, and you write nothing but performant code. You also love to try out and experiment with new technologies to see how they can add value to our codebase.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Proactive monitoring and maintenance of Linux Infrastructure Performance and Security.
  • Monitoring and debugging issues with application performance through tools such as New Relic.
  • Building out highly-scalable infrastructure to cope with traffic and feature growth.
  • Implementing security and backup policies in-line with WhaleShark Media, Inc best-practice.
  • Work collaboratively with everyone in the business, but particularly with other engineers.
  • Web Server and MySQL configuration and management.
  • Developing new features against our core PHP framework.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required skills & techniques:

  • 5+ Years experience in managing Linux systems
  • 4+ Years PHP Experience
  • RHEL and CentOS
  • Nginx, Varnish, and Apache
  • MySQL / MariaDB Administration and Optimisation
  • Shell Scripting
  • Server Automation Technologies (Puppet / Chef)
  • KVM Virtualisation
  • Proficient in TCP/IP Networking
  • Firewall Configuration and Maintenance
  • Source Control Systems

Desired skills:

  • AWS
  • OpenCloud
  • MemCached
  • RabbitMQ

We welcome applications from any individual regardless of ethnic origin, gender, disability, religious belief, sexual orientation or age. All applications will be considered on merit.
